About the Berkey® PF-2™ Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements Set
Testing for fluoride was based on 20-30ppm of the ion in the influent aqueous solution at a flow rate of no more than 3 gpm per cubic foot of media. Results of ‹1ppm of the fluoride ion in the effluent were typical for the media (>95% reduction). Under optimum conditions, effluent concentrations of less than 50 ppb were readily achieved (>99.75% reduction).
Need to filter for arsenic? This product uniquely targets the entire family of arsenic oxide anions as well as the arsenic cations.
REPLACEMENT:
Under normal conditions it is recommended that each set of two PF-2 elements be replaced after 1,000 gallons (the Berkey Light®️ is 2.5 gallons therefore the PF-2 filters should be replaced after 400 refills. If the system is refilled about one time per day, the PF-2’s should be replaced annually, if the system is refilled about twice per day, the PF-2’s should be replaced about every six months). Actual capacity is dependent on the presence of other competing contaminants in the source water. High levels of Fluoride, arsenic and heavy metals may reduce the capacity and efficiency of the elements.
Tybr –
We purchased these last year about this time along with our “Berkey” (also bought here.) I can honestly say we are extremely happy with the ease of installation and the certainty of knowing our newborn will not be ingesting fluoride from before she has teeth. Having done a significant amount of research, we as a family have determined we DO NOT want our family sucking down fluoride.
“The main fluoride chemical (fluorosilicic acid) that is added to water is not what most people would call a naturally occurring compound. It is a corrosive acid captured in the air pollution control devices of the phosphate fertilizer industry.”
The information about how detrimental fluoride is, is out there, just spend five minutes researching it and you will see what a great product this is.
Thank you “Berkey Guy” for a great deal on what we believe to be a essential product for our family.
Sincerely,
Tybr~

Does this filter use aluminum in any form. What ppm AL is present in the water after treatment?
jeff –
The PF2 Fluoride Filters utilize Aluminum Oxide, or alumina to reduce fluoride in the water.

Does this aluminum APPEAR in the drinking water we take from the tank?
jeff –
No, Alumina should not appear in the water.

They do fit in the Travel Berkey System.

Not a review – other than saying I’ve been using them for a couple years and love them. What do we do with the used ones? Can they recycle or do we just throw them out?
jeff –
Please put them in trash.
